Welcome to St Mary's Catholic Primary School

We are a vibrant school at the heart of Great Eccleston and offer a wide range of experiences.

All our children at St Mary's thrive and "sparkle" and enjoy coming to school.

We hope you will find our web site both informative and useful. We welcome visits to school at any time of the school day.

Mr Ramsay

It's been another successful year at St Mary's. Academically our Year 6s have achieved well in the SATs with 100% achieving or bettering the "expected" standard in Mathematics, Reading and Writing.

According to the article below from the Lancashire Evening Post St Marys is the best performing school in the Preston Area with 100% of our children achieving the expected standard.

Our children have taken part in the "Last Choir" competition coming second in their heat, qualifiying for the final and going on to sing at the Dunkenhalgh Hotel in early May for the Lord Lieutenent of Lancashire and many other important business and community leaders in Lancashire at their Celebration of Commonwealth Day.

On a sporting front, we won our local Small Schools' Swimming Gala for the fourth year running and the Small Schools' Rounders Competition held at Garstang Academy.

In July we celebrated winning the Halsall Trophy for best "School Display" at Great Eccleston Show with many of our pupils receiving prizes for their individual entries into the Children's Sections of the show. A special mention needs to be made of Ciaran and Niamh who each won the "Supreme Exhibitor" award for their age group.

This September we received a new football kit sponsored by the Premier League and its debut, at the Garstang Small Schools' Year 5/6 mixed boys and girls Football Tournament, in the team's opinion resulted in our winning the tournament. This was followed by our Year 3 and Year 4 mixed team coming runners up in their tournament.

Towards the end of last year we also received notification that we had achieved the BRONZE AWARD from the Woodland trust for our outdoor activities. We are now working towards the SILVER AWARD and are just one ciriteria off achieving this...fingers crossed we'll have news shortly!

The playground improvement project we embarked on last September should come into fruition by the end of December. A lot of effort has gone into fund raising for this by our PTFA and we have been fortunate to be awarded a grant from the National Lottery Awards for All scheme and one from the DfE's Healthy Pupils Capital Fund.
